Books :
"School choice ; Why you need it, how to get it".
Author : David Harmer, 1962-
Publisher : Cato Institute
Date : 1994
Reviews :
The writers of all of the articles do have extensive educational
backgrounds, with the minimum degree possessed is a Master's.
They also have worked in whatever districts they are research-
ing and writing about, which helps in backing up their findings.
The articles were all straight forward and easy to follow. I in-
cluded some recent and not so recent articles to mirror the subject
I am researching. The websites I researched also shared the
same validity with solid educational and employment backgrounds.
The main websites researched were informative as well, but the
main critique I have on the websites is an obvious one. They are
all one-sided. That is indeed no revelation, and it is why the sites
were created ; to get a point across to its readers and to reveal
points of view. The book I am using has some strong factors. It's
author has extensive education, and it was published by an
educational institute. That is important because it is a fact based
research book, and the reputation of the school can be tied in
with what is printed in the book.

RJA #7c : Field Research Plan.
On my subject of teacher reassignment to poorer schools,
I plan to interview current as well as past teachers. I know
many former teachers on a personal basis and I feel that they
will let me use their names for this topic. I will attempt to
interview current instructors as well, but I feel they will
want me to keep their names (as well as their respected
districts) confidential as well. I will ask them the following
questions;
What is their stance on forced reassignments?
Have they themselves been reassigned in such a manner?
Why did they leave the teaching profession & was it based
on a new career move or internal politics?

RJA #7a : Internet Research Tools.
When I orginally started my research, I knew that I would
have to use multiple search engines to find out the facts that
I needed. Honestly, I was used to using one ; but I knew I
had to expand on my engines sooner or later. I have had great
success with the typical web searches and have been able to
find out what I needed. But, I have also used several search
sites via newpaper web searches as well. I plan to use the site
www.infomine.ucr.edu more to research educational issues. Here
are some of the sites I will be using :
http://www.msn.com/
http://www.yahoo.com/
http://www.newyorktimes.com/
http://www.denverpost.com/
http://www.latimes.com/
All search sites I have used have been great for needed inform-
ation. The main difference between the more public used
domains such as msn.com and the news sites is that the news
sites are sometimes one sided with the delivery of the news as
well as research information.

RJA #5c : String Search Check.
The following people are also doing their research topic involving education as well, so most of their string searches were the same as mine and they were all easy & worked well.
Elizabeth's search strings were simple and very useful. Since my topic is also on education, I have used some of the same ones as well.

Michells's searches were pretty straight forward and all easy to use as well. Great search words.
